Woodstock Farm Animals Sanctuary

Volunteers are always appreciated to help staff clean barns and coops, doing grounds maintenance, helping clean and set-up our visitor center, and other projects (maybe some painting or assisting feeding animals). The work is mainly outdoors – wear farm clothes and shoes and a hat and sunscreen as needed – consult our webpage for details (http://woodstockfas.org/volunteer.shtml). Pack yourself a lunch if you are coming for a full day (vegan of course, out of respect for the animal residents). We can always use extra hands (and the critters always appreciate getting some extra hugs and attention and belly rubs) so we hope you will visit us – just get in touch!

Located two hours from New York City, Catskill Animal Sanctuary is a safe and loving haven for abused and abandoned horses and farm animals. Since 2001, CAS has provided refuge for about 1,400 such animals, including horses, ponies, cows, goats, sheep, donkeys, pigs, rabbits, and a variety of birds.
Our volunteer program allows us to help more animals! We have over 100 volunteers who assist with everything from mucking stalls to stuffing envelopes to web programming.

We constantly need pet food {dogs, cats and bunnies too!}, bedding, towels, cat litter and pet-friendly cleaners and disinfectants.
Moving to Florida or Arizona? We need a snow blower. We have some 400 feet of driveway/parking. Snow plowing and salting is costly and destructive. The asphalt is always damaged and we invariably must repair the lawn each spring.
Have a small, four-wheel drive vehicle you would like to donate? We could use it in our law enforcement and animal welfare activities. We have to deal with bad weather and bad roads.
Agility equipment. We will offer outdoor agility training in the spring.
Plumbers, carpenters, electricians, painters, excavators, landscapers, heating and air conditioning contractors: could you spare us some time? We need your services from time to time, usually for relatively small jobs. Send us your business card and join our labor bank.
Items to sell at our yard sale.
Books (animal oriented) for our reference library.
Hydraulic Wood Splitter.

NYSDEC Recruiting Citizen Scientists for the 2010 Volunteer River Herring Monitoring Season
The NYSDEC Hudson River Estuary Program and Hudson Rivers Fisheries Unit are continuing a volunteer-based River Herring monitoring program this spring. Monitoring will take place between 4/1 – 5/31 during the annual migration of river herring from the ocean into freshwater tributaries to spawn. Each volunteer will conduct visual observations for signs of herring, at least twice a week for 15 minutes at a site close to his or her town. Training is provided and begins in March, no experience necessary. We need at least ten volunteers per site. More info.
