Long-term Opportunities
Catskill Animal Sanctuary
CAS is a bustling place with 30 horses, 20 cows, 15 pigs, and over 100 smaller animals. We’ve got GREAT volunteer support but could use even more hands! If you love animals, are in good physical shape, and enjoy hard work, there’s no greater place to be a part of. Come assist with cleaning, feeding, turnout, barn management, and other daily chores. The highly organized work of caring for 150 animals requires that volunteers commit to a shift on the same day of every week. (It’s okay if you must miss a week now and then.)
We welcome children between 12 and 15 with a parent or adult supervisor; kids 16 and up can volunteer on their own (on a trial basis). Yes, Catskill Animal Sanctuary meets school system community service requirements. More info or call 336-8447. www.casanctuary.org/cas/volunteer

The committee meets monthly. Chairs are Julie Noble (845)331-1682 ext. 7339 or

this program is for kids who have graduated from 6th Grade. They need to fill out a form and meet with Derek, Librarian Trainee, for training. The kids are expected to help out for two hours per week during the school year and four hours a week during the summer. They do simple (but very important) jobs like putting away books, straightening up the shelves, and putting away the stuffed animals. After awhile, we include helping with Storytime. New Paltz Youth Program
Volunteering is not only a fulfilling way to spend your spare time, but it can also help build a resume or fufill community service hours for school or court. The NPYP participates in most town events including the Taste of New Paltz, Unity In Diversity Festival, 4th of July Fireworks, Clean Sweep, Beltane Festival, Regatta, and many more. Volunteers are also needed for tutoring, assisting in NPYP programs and NPYP events such as the Easter Egg Hunt and Haunted House. More info.

We need volunteers to help bring in the food to our food pantry and to store it in our freezers and refrigerators, as well as to put the dry goods on our shelves and pallets. It typically takes an hour of work to load handtrucks with food then unload the food into our food pantry starting at 9am. Delivery dates for 2010: 4/19, 5/17, 6/14, 7/19, 8/16, 9/13, 10/18, 11/15, 12/7. Youth welcome 16 and up unsupervised or 14 and up supervised. Volunteers also welcome weekdays 10am-1pm to make up pantry prepacks. In addition, very dedicated groups might assist stripping and waxing tile floors or steam cleaning the carpeted areas.
