Legal Services of the Hudson Valley seeks private attorneys who are willing to take a pro bono civil case in Ulster County. You will be able to obtain CLE credit for doing so, while providing valuable legal assistance to those in need. Before sending you a case, we will make sure you are ready and willing to accept it. You can let us know what kind of civil matter you are willing to take on. You could volunteer to draft a simple will, or to handle a matrimonial action. You could represent a homeowner in a foreclosure, or assist at an unemployment insurance hearing. Call Kathleen Mannix, Managing Attorney, at 845-471-0058, ext. 104, for more information, and to volunteer.
Spring is almost here! The NYSDEC Hudson River Estuary Program and Hudson River Fisheries Unit are starting to recruit volunteers for their volunteer-based river herring monitoring program!
Monitoring will take place from 4/1 to 5/31 during the annual migration of river herring from the ocean into freshwater tributaries to spawn. Volunteers are required to look for signs of herring, at least twice a week for 15 minutes at a site close to his or her town. No experience is necessary, and training is provided! Also, it’s a great way to connect with your local watershed, witness a historic, seasonal cycle in the Hudson River’s tributaries!
If you are interested in participating, would like to attend a training session, or have any questions, please contact us at: r3hermon@gw.dec.state.ny.us or (845) 256-3172.
