Below is information provided by HITS, with a link to the HITS Triathlon website which very easily walks you through the process for registering as a volunteer. After you’ve registered, HITS will communicate with you and direct you to download a parking pass so that you won’t have to pay the $8 park day-use fee. While there are timeframes given, the HITS Triathlon team will gladly accept any time you can give to the event. Whenever you arrive, there is a guard house at the entrance where a park employee and/or an event volunteer will direct you to the pavilion at South Lake.
Tom has done so much for Ulster County, supporting so many good causes. Let’s show him our appreciation, and come out and volunteer this weekend. I hope to see you!

HITS HUNTER MOUNTAIN
June 9-10, 2012
The HITS Triathlon Series is producing five triathlon races this weekend, June 8-10, 2012 at North South Lake Park on Co. Rd. 18, Haines Falls, NY. Athlete check-in is on Friday, June 8, 2012. There will be three shorter races – Sprint, Olympic and Open – on Saturday, June 9, 2012 and two longer races – Half and Full – on Sunday, June 10, 2012. Five hundred racers will participate over the two days. An additional 200 family and friends will join the racers at the park. Most of the participants are elite athletes, who will truly inspire you. A number of them will complete the Full Race, which consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run.
With 500 racers traversing such extraordinary distances, we always rely on volunteer assistance for some of the easier tasks of assisting athletes, staff, and police officers performing traffic control during the event. In addition to our undying gratitude and that of the athletes, volunteers will receive a HITS Triathlon Series t-shirt and will enjoy a beautiful day in a beautiful setting.
Some of the specific duties for the volunteers include:
Administration – distributing race packets, t-shirts, goodie bags
Transition Area – assisting athletes as they transition between swim, bike and run
Directing Athletes – ensuring racers stay on course; assisting law enforcement at difficult intersections
Bike & Run Aid Stations – handing out water bottles, bananas, gels, etc.
Finish Line – presenting finish medals, removing racing chips, distributing water, etc.
We will happily accept any commitment of time that a volunteer is willing to make. We could use the following numbers of volunteers on the dates and times indicated below:
Friday, June 8:
4-5 volunteers from 2 to 6 PM for Administration as described above;
4-5 volunteers from 6 to 8 PM for the Welcome Dinner;
Saturday, June 9:
10-15 volunteers on Saturday, June 9 from 6 AM to 2 PM for Transition Area, Directing Athletes and Aid Stations;
4-5 volunteers on Saturday, June 9 from 2 to 6 pm for Administration;
Sunday, June 10:
20-30 volunteers on Sunday, June 10 from 6 AM to Midnight (obviously multiple shifts of volunteers).
