UlsterCorps Service Summit April 14, 2010 at the College Terrace, SUNY New Paltz
Rosendale, NY (March 2, 2010) – UlsterCorps is bringing together representatives from the nonprofit, business, higher education and governmental sectors to address the state and value of volunteerism in Ulster County. Sponsored by the Center for Research, Regional Education and Outreach (CRREO) and the Nyquist Foundation, the gathering will offer an opportunity to take a new look at volunteer service and how it enhances a greater degree of well-being and resiliency in our communities. The Summit will open with a keynote address by Assemblymember Kevin Cahill, with concluding remarks by County Executive Mike Hein. The Summit will also involve a combination of speakers, panel presentations and group discussions.
The Summit will include:
* Â· a review of data gathered on volunteerism in Ulster County
* Â· a look at successful practices as well as obstacles to more effective engagement
* of volunteers
* Â· initial steps toward a strategy to strengthen and further expand effective volunteer
* service, including the role of inter-agency collaborative programming
The information gathered at the summit will be shared with service agencies working to use volunteers more effectively, businesses interested in increasing their employees’ involvement and local government in their efforts to strengthen the well-being of communities in Ulster County. The Summit is part of the on-going work of UlsterCorps to deepen the knowledge about volunteerism and to find ways to implement and grow a culture of service in Ulster County. We believe that the notion of service work is important in our civic life and as individuals, family and community members.
