The mission of the Center for Creative Education is to create a better world by nurturing and empowering youth and community through the arts. CCE was established as a non-profit organization in 1989 and launched its first youth arts education program in Kingston, New York in 1997. The following year CCE established the Stone Ridge Center for the Arts (SRCA) as a community center, performance space, and administrative headquarters. Their new Kingston complex has a 1300 square foot dance studio, a percussion studio, homework and tutoring center, and a computer music lab that is being developed in collaboration with the Kingston School District’s Department of Fine Arts and Enrichment. This lab will have the equipment to offer courses currently unavailable at the high school and will provide training to both students and District staff. Volunteers needed for office help, clean-up, and event assistance.
Cornell Cooperative Extension Tech Wizards Mentoring
4-H Mentoring Programs in Ulster County provide life and academic skill mentoring to underserved youth in 5th-10th grades in Kingston and Ellenville. The Tech Wizards program achieves these goals through small group mentoring in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), fields in which underserved youth are typically underrepresented, and through the completion of community service projects. Each Tech Wizards Mentor is responsible for facilitating STEM activities with a small group of up to 4 youth in a structured afterschool environment. By committing to become a Tech Wizards Mentor, you will receive training and support to become a Mentor to up to 4 youth between the ages of 9 and 15. You will learn how to facilitate fun activities and experiments with your Mentees that could include geocaching, robotics and computer coding, and help them to complete a 15 hour community improvement project in Ellenville.
